FAQ & steps to spot on success!

  • Please complete the form below this section (or call, text, or email if preferred) for a free consultation to learn how speech-language therapy can help your child and when therapy is needed. Let’s determine if Spot on Speech is the spot for you!

After the consultation (if appropriate), the first session will be scheduled.

  • Services can be provided at any of the following locations:

    1. Spot on Speech office: Individualized speech and language sessions occur in our therapy room at Spot on Speech.

    2. Teletherapy: Online speech and language services provided if you live outside of our service area or are just looking for a more convenient alternative. Teletherapy is an evidence based service delivery model with similar expectations of a traditional speech and language therapy approach. A working device (ex. desktop, laptop) and good internet connection are necessary.

    3. Preschool or Daycare: Does your child attend preschool or daycare during the week? On-site services are a possible option depending on location of facility. Please call or email for more information!

  • The initial session will be designed to build rapport with your child and gather baseline data. An initial evaluation will be conducted to develop a picture of your child’s speech and language skills.

Formal standardized tests and/or informal assessment tools such as parent questionnaires, play observation, language samples, and checklists may be utilized. Review of other information provided by parents or legal guardians such as medical records, prior evaluations, and Individual Education Plans (IEPs) will also be examined.

  • Following the evaluation a treatment plan will be developed tailoring to your child’s specific speech and language needs and aligning with family goals.

Length of treatment sessions will also be discussed based on the child's need. Typically, sessions will last for 60 minutes; however, 30 minute sessions are an option.

  • Spot on Speech is currently only accepting private pay, but a monthly superbill can be provided to you for reimbursement based on your insurance plan. We encourage all clients to contact their insurance company prior to starting services to inquire about (1) how to submit superbills for reimbursement and (2) what percentage of sessions will be reimbursed.

Please contact us for additional information or to inquire about our rates.

  • It is really tough to know if your little one would benefit from speech-language services. We offer a free consultation to determine whether an evaluation and services would be necessary for your child.

  • 1. Family Coaching: Would you like tips/strategies for working with your child at home to support and increase communication skills? We can guide you on how to use items already in your home such as toys, puzzles, and books to target specific speech and language skills. Has your child received a recent diagnosis? We can help families have a better understanding of your child’s diagnosis and the impact on speech and language skills.

    2. Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Consultation: Does your child currently have an IEP? Sometimes IEPs can be very overwhelming and confusing to parents. At Spot on Speech, we will sit down and review your child’s IEP with you, so you leave with a clear understanding of this legal document.

Testimonials

“When my son, Andrew, was in third grade he worked with Shannon to improve his articulation of the /r/ sound. He worked with her once a week and not only did he make tremendous progress, but he LOVED working with her! She always did fun, interesting activities with him. I think he almost forgot he was working on his speech because he was so engaged in the different lessons. I was amazed at her creativity in planning activities that kept his interest. Within just a few weeks with Shannon, Andrew was self-correcting and family members were noticing a big difference in their ability to understand him.”

-Amanda W.

“I had the opportunity to work with Shannon Chafin at HSE Schools, from 2021-2022. Shannon served as a great mentor to me as a therapist new to that school district. I found Shannon’s professionalism, organizational skills, and innovative approach to be top notch! She is well respected by her students and her school community.  Shannon not only has the skills to help student’s voices be heard, she also finds ways to make sessions fun while making meaningful connections with students along the way. I still hear from students we shared about how much they miss her after they move on from elementary school to intermediate school. Shannon is a wonderful and caring speech therapist.  Any student would be lucky to have her!”

-Leah H., Occupational Therapist

“Shannon is an amazing speech and language therapist! She identified my son's needs quickly and explained his deficits. She planned fun, effective and engaging lessons that made him excited for his sessions. He loved working with Shannon and we always appreciated her feedback and suggestions for working at home.”
